What is Executive Presence for a leader?

Methodology & Options

We use three ways to help you build presence in your executive team:

Option 1. Foundational “Awareness”

Self-Awareness assessments

2 day workshop on Executive Presence Competencies

We would meet as often as needed and without constraint, we would be constantly accessible by phone and e-mail for document review and advice, and we estimate the time together to encompass about 30 days.

Self-Awareness Assessment

  • Executive Competencies assessment

  • Participants will also complete a “Lifestyle” survey

  • 30 minute phone interview with the facilitators to establish connections

  • Participants will also be required to bring actual presentations to use throughout the course.

Workshop (between 4 and 8 participants)

  • Theoretical sessions

  • Groups discussions

  • Role Plays

  • Video-taped exercises

  • Extensive feedback (direct and assessment-based)

  • Each participant will map their current state in the 8 executive competencies

  • Start a change process based on their personal situation, goals and expectations.

Option 2. Developmental “Confidence”

Option 1 plus

360 Interviews for selected executives; with

6 month one-to-one coaching

In addition to the responsibilities and contributions of option #1, we would also work with selected executives to help them individually with their role and with their accountabilities as exemplars to others.

We will recommend adjustments to executivesbehavior in order to maximize the value of the coaching. We will work with you to identify priority issues that could result in quick wins for team members and that complement their own PDPs. We are available to selected others at their request in addition to the primary team. We estimate that this involvement would last for 180 days after the workshop, about six months. The client has unlimited access to coach for ongoing follow-up advice and direction during this period.

360 Interviews

  • We will interview each executive’s boss, peers, direct reports, internal customers to provide different perspectives on the executive’s presence.

  • Meeting to debrief results of 360 with executive and L&D partner

  • Commitment to behavioral change from executive with coaching goals and ground rules.

Coaching

  • Review personal and professional background

  • How executive got to where they are

  • Where executive is in career

  • Why executive wants coaching

  • What executive hopes to gain from the session

  • Where executive wants to go in life – personally and professionally

  • Trigger list – actions and activities to implement the next day, week, and month(s).

    Executive walks away with:

    • tools to fit the job at hand

    • a variety of targets and goals to aim for

    • a strategy to go forward

    • fall-back plans

    That session is followed-up with a debriefing for the individual client’s manager along with a written action plan from the individual. That plan makes sure the coach and the person being coached are always speaking the same language.

Option 3. Developmental “Presence”

Option 1 and 2 plus

Milestone Assessment (after 6 months assessment of Executive Presence competencies)

6 months further coaching

In addition to the roles described in both options #1 and #2, we would organize a milestone assessment at around 6 months after coaching has commenced.

Milestone Assessment

  • Assess which targets have been reached

  • Which have been improved

  • Which have not been addressed

  • Opportunity for executives to celebrate their achievements

  • Provides a springboard for further development.

We estimate that this involvement would last for 12 months after the workshop. Note that all options include unlimited access to our help within the parameters described.
